How To Change Hair Color In Photoshop

Being a widely used graphic editing software, Adobe Photoshop offers a plethora of features to manipulate images. One of these features includes changing the hair color in a picture, which is an awesome technique to know if you want to see how you or someone else would look with a different hair color. In this blog post, we will go through a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this.

Step 1: Open the Image

The first thing to do is to open the image you want to manipulate in Photoshop. You can do this by clicking on File > Open then browse to your picture and open it.

Step 2: Select the Hair

The next step is to select the hair that you want to change the color of. Photoshop offers multiple tools for this purpose, but for this tutorial, we’ll use the Quick Selection Tool.

To select the hair, click on the Quick Selection Tool in the toolbar, then click and drag over the hair in the picture. Make sure to select all the hair you want to change the color of. If you select too much, you can always press Alt (or Option on Mac) and click on the unwanted area to deselect it.

Step 3: Create a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer

Once the hair is selected, you will create a new adjustment layer. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation… This will open a new panel where you can adjust the color of the selected area.

Step 4: Adjust the Hue

Now, you can adjust the hair color by moving the Hue slider. As you move the slider, you’ll see the hair color change in real-time. The Saturation slider will change the intensity of the color, and the Lightness slider will make the color lighter or darker.

Here’s the source code for these steps:

        // Open the image
        File > Open;

        // Select the Quick Selection Tool
        Toolbar > Quick Selection Tool;

        // Create a new Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer
        Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation;

        // Adjust the Hue, Saturation and Lightness
        Hue/Saturation Panel > Hue, Saturation, Lightness;

Step 5: Save Your Work

Once you’re satisfied with the new hair color, it’s time to save your work. Go to File > Save As… and choose a location and format for your image.

That’s it! You’ve successfully changed the hair color in Photoshop. This tutorial is just a basic introduction to Photoshop’s powerful color adjustment capabilities, and there’s a lot more you can do with the software. So keep exploring and have fun experimenting with different looks.
