As designers and developers, collaboration is a key component of our daily processes. Drawing from my personal experience, I can confidently say that Figma, an interface design application, is one of the best tools available for seamless collaboration. The beauty of Figma lies in its simplicity and user-friendly features, one of which is the ability to share files with team members. In this article, I will provide a step-by-step guide on how to share a Figma file.
Step 1: Open Your Figma File
First and foremost, open the Figma file that you want to share with others. If you are unsure how to do this, it’s pretty straightforward – just navigate to the file on your dashboard and click on it.
Step 2: Locate the Share Button
Next, you need to find the share button. This button is located in the top right corner of your screen, to the right of the ‘Present’ button. It has an icon that looks like a box with an upward pointing arrow.
Step 3: Choose Who to Share With
After clicking the share button, a dialog box will appear. Here, you can type the email addresses of the people you want to share the file with. If the person is already a member of your Figma workspace, you can simply type their name.
Step 4: Set Permissions
Just beside the field where you typed the email or name, there’s a dropdown menu that lets you set permissions. You can choose from ‘Can view’ or ‘Can edit’. ‘Can view’ allows the person to only view the file, while ‘Can edit’ gives the person the ability to make changes to the file.
Step 5: Share the File
Finally, click on the ‘Share’ button to share the file. The recipient will receive an email notification with a link to access the file.
Sharing a Figma file, as you can see, is straightforward and user-friendly. However, it’s important to understand that the ability to share files is dependent on the type of Figma plan you’re on. Free plans allow you to share files with two editors and unlimited viewers, while Professional and Organization plans allow for unlimited sharing.
So now that you’ve learnt how to share a Figma file, it’s time to collaborate and bring your design ideas to life!
