  2. In the search bar, type “Dark Reader” and click on the first result that pops up.
  3. Click on “Add to Chrome” to install the extension.
  4. A new icon of the Dark Reader extension will appear in your extension tray.
  5. Click on this icon and toggle the switch to “On”. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast, sepia, and grayscale to your liking.

Now, when you open Google Sheets, it should be in dark mode. The Dark Reader extension affects all your websites, but you can choose which sites to apply to by clicking on the “Only for” button.

Using Google Sheets Themes

Another method for getting a dark background in Google Sheets is by changing the theme of your spreadsheet. This is not a true dark mode and would only apply to the current sheet you’re working on. Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Select the cells that you want to turn dark (press CTRL+A for selecting all cells).
