When creating digital products, it is common to include different levels of visual effects, such as the ‘Blur effect’. Figma, a robust UI/UX design tool, has the ability to incorporate this feature. While it may not be specifically designed for text, it can still be utilized in a creative manner to achieve a blurred text effect. This comprehensive tutorial will walk you through the step-by-step process of blurring text in Figma.
Step 1: Create Your Text
Open your Figma project and select the ‘Text’ tool from the toolbar on the left. Click anywhere on your canvas and type your desired text. Here, you have the freedom to choose your font, size, weight and color.
Step 2: Duplicate the Text
After creating your text, select it and press Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V to create a duplicate. We’ll apply the blur effect to this duplicate text. Make sure the duplicate is exactly over the original text.
Step 3: Apply ‘Layer Blur’
Select the duplicate text, go to the right-side panel and you’ll find the ‘Effects’ option. Click on ‘+’ to add a new effect.
Here, you won’t find a direct option to blur the text as Figma doesn’t support text blur natively. However, we can use Layer Blur to achieve the effect. In the ‘Effects’ panel, select Layer Blur.
Step 4: Adjust the ‘Blur’ Settings
Now, adjust the values in the ‘Blur’ option to get the desired effect. Remember, the higher the value, the more blurred your text will be. Experiment with the numbers until you get the effect you’re looking for.

Step 5: Create an Outline of the Original Text

Now, select the original text and duplicate it again. We are going to create an outline for this text to make it distinct against the blurred duplicate. To do this, go to 'Stroke' in the right-side panel, and tick the checkbox to activate it. Choose the color and adjust the thickness of the outline to your preference.

Step 6: Position the Text Outline over the Blurred Text
Finally, move the outlined text and place it exactly over the blurred text. This will create a nice blur effect on your text while keeping it readable.
And voila! You have successfully blurred text in Figma. This creative workaround allows you to blur text and enhance your designs, giving them a unique touch.
Figma is an incredibly versatile tool that allows you to achieve various effects, even if they aren’t directly supported. This example of blurred text is just one of the many ways you can get creative with your designs in Figma. Keep experimenting!
