How To Clean Canvas Pictures
Canvas pictures are a great addition to any decor, but like any piece of art, they need to be handled with care. Over time, dust and grime can accumulate on the surface, diminishing its luster and vibrancy. Follow these simple steps to clean your canvas pictures without damaging them.
Materials
You will need:
- Soft brush (e.g. a clean makeup brush)
- Soft white cloth
- Distilled water
- Soft sponge
Procedure
Here are the steps to follow when cleaning your canvas pictures:
Step 1: Begin by dusting the canvas with your soft brush. Make sure the brush is clean and dry. Brush off the dust from the surface of the canvas, paying attention to the corners.
Step 2: For a deeper cleaning, dampen a soft white cloth with distilled water. Wring out excess water so the cloth is just damp, not wet.
Step 3: Gently wipe the canvas with the damp cloth, again taking care to not rub too hard or scrub the surface. Wipe in a circular motion for best results.
Step 4: If the canvas is still dirty, you can use a soft sponge dampened with a little more distilled water. Gently scrub the dirty area. Be sure to test this method on a small, unnoticeable area first to make sure it does not damage the paint.
Step 5: Allow the canvas to air dry. Never use a hairdryer or any heat source to speed up the drying process as this could cause the canvas to shrink or the paint to crack.
