If you are familiar with HubSpot, you are aware that creating a list is an essential aspect of the platform’s capabilities. Whether you are strategizing a promotional campaign or categorizing your contacts, a well-organized list can greatly impact your success. But the question is, how can you generate one? Continue reading for the answer!
Step 1: Navigating to the Lists Page
The first step is to navigate to the Lists page on your HubSpot dashboard. Here’s how:
- Log into your HubSpot account.
- Click on the Contacts tab at the top of your dashboard.
- Select Lists from the dropdown menu.
You should now be on the Lists page where you can see all your existing lists.
Step 2: Creating a New List
To create a new list, click on the orange Create list button in the top right-hand corner of the Lists page. A dialog box will appear, asking you to name your list and select the list type.
Step 3: Naming Your List and Choosing the List Type
Give your list a clear, descriptive name that reflects its purpose. The two types of lists you can create on HubSpot are:
- Active Lists – These are dynamic and automatically update as contacts meet or fail to meet the specified criteria.
- Static Lists – These do not update automatically. Once a contact is added, they stay on the list until manually removed.
Choose the type that suits your needs best.
Step 4: Defining the List Criteria
Next, you’ll need to set the criteria for your list. This can be anything from a contact’s lifecycle stage, to their job title, to the date they became a contact. The options are virtually limitless. Once you’ve defined your criteria, click on the Apply filter button.
Step 5: Saving Your List
After defining your criteria, click on the Save button in the top right-hand corner. Your list should now be successfully created!
And that’s it! You have now created a list on HubSpot. Creating lists is a core competency for any HubSpot user, as it allows you to segment and better understand your contacts.
Note: Creating and managing lists in HubSpot is largely an iterative process. As you gain more experience and familiarity with the platform, you’ll be able to create more complex and useful lists.
