How To Make A Button In Figma

Figma is a cloud-based design tool that’s great for collaborative projects. One of the fundamental aspects of designing User Interfaces (UI) involves creating buttons. In this post, we’ll walk you through the process of creating a button in Figma.

Step 1: Open a New Figma Document

First, you need to launch Figma and open a new document. You can do this by clicking on the + icon on the top right corner of your dashboard.

Step 2: Draw a Rectangle

Next, select the Rectangle tool from the toolbar on the left, or you can use the shortcut R key. Click and drag on your artboard to draw a rectangle. This will be the body of the button.

Step 3: Adjust the Button Shape

With the rectangle selected, you can adjust its properties from the right panel. You can define the dimensions, fill color, stroke, and corner radius. The corner radius will make your button edges round. A radius of 20-30 should be enough for most buttons.

Step 4: Add Text to the Button

Now, it’s time to add some text to the button. Select the Text tool from the toolbar or press T on your keyboard. Click inside the rectangle and type the desired button text.

Step 5: Style the Text

Just like the rectangle, you can adjust the text properties from the right panel. You can change the font, size, color, alignment, and so on. Be sure to choose a text style that is legible and complements your button design.

Step 6: Group the Elements

Once you are satisfied with your button, we need to group the elements together. This can be done by selecting both the rectangle and the text (hold Shift while clicking to select multiple elements) and then either right-click and choose Group, or press Ctrl+G (or Command+G on a Mac).

// To group the elements
Select Rectangle + Text > Right Click > Group
OR
Ctrl + G (Windows)
Command + G (Mac)

Step 7: Creating a Component

With the grouped button selected, you can now create a component. Go to the right panel and click on the Create component button (or use the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+K or Command+Option+K on a Mac). This allows you to reuse the button across your design.

// To create a component
Select Group > Right Panel > Create component
OR
Ctrl + Alt + K (Windows)
Command + Option + K (Mac)

Conclusion

That’s it! You’ve made your button in Figma. This is just a basic button, but you can get creative and make different types of buttons by playing around with colors, gradients, shadows, icons, and more. Happy designing!
