Adobe Illustrator is a robust design tool utilized by numerous artists and designers around the globe. One of its capabilities includes requiring internet access for features like cloud storage, preference syncing, and others. However, there may be times when you wish to limit this access, whether it be for data security purposes or to conserve bandwidth. In this blog post, we will provide you with instructions on how to prevent Adobe Illustrator from connecting to the internet.
Method 1: Through Adobe Illustrator’s Preferences
Adobe Illustrator gives you the ability to control your connectivity preferences directly from the application. Here’s how:
- Open Adobe Illustrator.
- Go to Edit > Preferences > General.
- Find the section labeled “Connectivity”.
- Uncheck the box that says “Allow Adobe to connect to the internet”.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Note: This method does not entirely prevent Adobe Illustrator from accessing the internet. It merely limits the frequency of access. For a more comprehensive solution, refer to Method 2 below.
Method 2: Through Firewall Settings
You can block Adobe Illustrator from accessing the internet by using your computer’s firewall settings. Here’s a guide on how to do this for Windows and Mac OS users:
Windows:
- Press Win + S and type ‘Windows Firewall’.
- Click on ‘Windows Defender Firewall’.
- On the left pane, click ‘Outbound Rules’.
- Click ‘New Rule’ on the right pane.
- Select ‘Program’, then click ‘Next’.
- Browse and select the Adobe Illustrator executable file (Illustrator.exe).
- Select ‘Block the connection’ and click ‘Next’.
- Ensure all three (Domain, Private, Public) are checked, then click ‘Next’.
- Name the rule (e.g., ‘Block Adobe Illustrator’), then click ‘Finish’.
Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
- Click on the Lock icon at the bottom and enter your password.
- Click Firewall Options.
- Click the + button to add an application.
- Select Adobe Illustrator and set the access to Block Incoming Connections.
- Click OK to save your settings.
All done! Adobe Illustrator should now be blocked from accessing the internet on your computer.
Remember: While this can help with conserving data and improving security, some features of Adobe Illustrator might not work as expected without internet access.
