Google Docs is a fantastic tool for creating and editing documents. However, there are times when its features may not behave as we would like. One common issue that users have is with Google Docs auto indenting paragraphs. While this can be a handy feature for many, it can also be quite frustrating for those who do not want their paragraphs to be indented automatically.
In this blog post, we will guide you through the steps to stop Google Docs from auto-indenting.
Step 1: Open Google Docs
The first step is to open the Google Docs application. You can either go directly to the website via your browser or access it through your Google Drive.
Step 2: Open the Document
Next, open the document where you want to stop the auto-indenting feature. This can be an existing document or a new one that you create.
Step 3: Go to the ‘Format’ tab
Once your document is open, navigate to the ‘Format’ tab at the top of the page. Click on it to reveal a drop-down menu.
Step 4: Access Paragraph Styles
In the dropdown menu, hover over ‘Paragraph styles’ then another secondary menu will pop out to the side.
Step 5: Select ‘Normal Text’
From the secondary menu that pops out, select ‘Normal Text’.
Step 6: Go to the ‘Align & Indent’ Tab
At the bottom of the secondary menu, click on the ‘Align & Indent’ option. This will open another menu.
Step 7: Choose ‘First line indent & spacing’
In the menu that opens, select ‘First line indent & spacing’.
Step 8: Set the ‘First line indent’ to ‘0’
You will then be presented with a box where you can adjust the indentation. Set the value for ‘First line indent’ to ‘0’.
First line indent: 0
Click ‘Apply’ to save the changes.
And that’s it! You have successfully stopped Google Docs from auto-indenting your paragraphs. Remember, you can always go back and change these settings if you decide you want your paragraphs indented in the future.
