How To Transfer Slack Ownership

There are instances when you may need to transfer the ownership of a workspace to someone else while using Slack, a highly efficient communication platform for teams. This could be due to you leaving the company, taking up a new role, or wanting to delegate administrative tasks. If you’re not familiar with Slack’s settings, this process may seem overwhelming. However, fear not! This blog post will walk you through the simple steps to transfer ownership in Slack.

Prerequisites

Before you can transfer ownership, there are certain things you need to ensure:

  • The new owner must already be a member of the workspace.
  • You must be the Primary Owner of the workspace. Only the Primary Owner has the ability to transfer ownership.

Steps to Transfer Slack Ownership

Step 1: Access Slack Workspace Settings

Start by accessing your Slack workspace. Click on your workspace name in the top left corner. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Settings & administration, then Workspace settings.

Step 2: Select “Members & Invitations”

Under Settings, locate and select Members & Invitations.

Step 3: Choose the New Owner

Scroll down to the People section, find the person you wish to transfer ownership to, and click on their name. It will open a profile drawer on the right side of the screen. Click on the button in the top right corner of the drawer, and select Change to Owner.

Note:

The new owner will need to accept the invitation to become the owner, so make sure they’re ready to take on the responsibility.

Wrap Up

And that’s it! You have successfully transferred your Slack workspace ownership. Remember, transferring ownership is a big responsibility as it gives the new owner full control over the workspace, including managing members and settings. So make sure to choose someone reliable and who understands the responsibilities that come with this role.
