As a popular tool for creating presentations, Google Slides often becomes a hub for sharing knowledge across various fields, not the least of which is mathematics. However, when it comes time to type fractions in Google Slides, many users find themselves stumped. But don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through the process!
Method 1: Using the Special Characters Tool
Google Slides has an integrated tool you can use to insert various special characters, including fractions. Here’s how you can use it:
- Open your Google Slides presentation and navigate to the slide where you want to insert the fraction.
- Click on the “Insert” tab on the top menu, then select “Special characters”.
- In the ‘Search’ field of the dialogue box that pops up, type ‘fraction’ and hit Enter.
- You will see a list of fraction options. Simply click on the one you need, and it will be inserted into your slide.
This method allows you to insert common fractions like ½, ⅓, and ¼ easily. However, if you need to type a fraction that is not available in the special characters menu, let’s move on to the second method.
Method 2: Using the Equation Tool
Google Slides also provides an Equation tool which you can use to type fractions. Here’s how:
- Open your Google Slides presentation and go to the slide where you want to insert the fraction.
- Click on the “Insert” tab on the top menu, then select “Equation”.
- In the equation toolbar that appears, click on the fraction symbol (∕) to insert a fraction into your slide.
- Type the numerator and denominator into the appropriate slots in the fraction you have just inserted.
Note: When using this method, make sure not to press the Enter key until you have completed typing your fraction. If you press Enter prematurely, Google Slides will exit the equation editing mode.
Method 3: Using Superscripts and Subscripts
If you want to type a fraction in-line with other text (e.g. in a sentence), you can use superscripts for the numerator and subscripts for the denominator.
- Type the numerator, then select it and click “Format” on the top menu. Choose “Text” and then “Superscript”.
- Type the “/” symbol normally.
- Finally, type the denominator, select it, and go to “Format” -> “Text” -> “Subscript”.
Unfortunately, this method can be a bit tedious if you have to type many fractions, but it can be useful for typing fractions within paragraphs of text.
So, there you go! We’ve covered three methods to type fractions in Google Slides. Choose the one that best fits your needs, and don’t let fractions slow down your presentation preparation!
