This tutorial will show you how to use the Ekstreme Socializer plugin for WordPress to help generate traffic through social book marking website. Socializer makes book marking to several different networks very simple. The plugin makes it even easier for your readers to submit your quality content to popular social networks.
Networks currently supported by Socializer: Blogmemes, del.icio.us, digg, Furl, Netscape, PlugIM, reddit, Slashdot, Squidoo, StumbleUpon, Technorati, Yahoo My Web, Backflip, BlinkBits, Blinklist, blogmarks, Buddymarks, CiteUlike, Diigo, dzone, FeedMarker, Feed Me Links!, Give a Link, Gravee, Hyperlinkomatic, igooi, kinja, Lilisto, Linkagogo, Linkroll, looklater, Magnolia, maple, MesFavs, netvouz, Newsvine, Raw Sugar, Rojo, Scuttle, Segnalo, Shadows, Simpy, Spurl, tagtooga, Tailrank, unalog, Wink, wists, and zurpy.
First you need to download the Ekstreme Socializer Plugin by Anders Bergman. Save the file to disk and extract the zipped files.
Connect to your plug via your favorite FTP Program and upload the socialize_adb.php file to your WordPress plugins directory (located in /wp-content/plugins).
Now you need to log into your WordPress admin panel. Click on the plugins tab and scroll down to the Socializer Plugin and click Activate.
Now you will have to add some code to your site to display the link on all pages. I will use the comments.php file to display the Socialize This link, because it will be on every page of my blog. Open up your FTP program and find the comments.php file located in the directory with your current theme.
Edit the comments.php file and the link for socializer. You will need to add the code below the line that says “you can start editing here”.
Save the file and then upload it to your site to view the results. You should get something like pictured below.
Then to book mark the page your users just have to click on the link to open op the page at Ekstreme.com.
Then they select the network they would like to add your site to. If you site is already added they have to option to promote it (on sites like digg.com). If the site isn’t added the user will be taken to the site and the title (and sometimes the excerpt from the content) of you post will be automatically entered.
This plugin should help you generate some traffic for your blog by getting the word out through social book marking sites. If you want to take it one step further you can change the “Socialize It!” text to an image by inserting the html for the image between the quotes in the comments.php file.
