Crafting a digital product requires a meticulous approach, boundless imagination, and keen attention to detail. An indispensable resource for digital designers is Figma, known for its adaptability and team-oriented features. Figma remains a top choice for designers of all levels.
While Figma is packed with numerous features, one that is commonly used but often overlooked is text justification. Text justification can be handy in improving the overall appearance and the readability of your text. This blog post will show you how to align text or justify text in Figma.
What is Text Justification?
Text Justification is a form of typographic alignment which gives your text a clean, neat, and organized layout by evenly aligning both the left and right margins of the text. This alignment creates a block of text that is easy to read and visually appealing especially in professional and formal documents.
How to Justify Text in Figma?
Unfortunately, Figma does not inherently provide a one-click solution to justify text like in Microsoft Word or Adobe Illustrator. However, there is a workaround using auto-layout frames and flexbox properties for the same. Let’s explore the steps to achieve text justification in Figma:
Step 1: Create the Text Layer
First and foremost, select the Text Tool from the toolbar and create a text layer by clicking anywhere on the canvas. Type your desired text that you want to justify.
Step 2: Convert the Text into Auto Layout
Once your text layer is ready, select it and click on the ‘+’ button next to the Auto Layout in the right-hand properties panel. This will convert your text layer into an auto layout frame.
Step 3: Adjust the Alignment
In the Auto Layout section of the right-hand properties panel, you will find the ‘Alignment and padding’ options. Here, set the horizontal padding to 0. This will extend the text to the full width of the frame.
Step 4: Set the Frame to Fill Container
The final step is to set the frame to fill its container. To do this, click on the four squares icon next to ‘Hug Contents’ and select ‘Fill Container’ from the dropdown menu.
And voila! Your text is now justified in Figma. While this method may seem a bit convoluted, it is currently the most effective way to justify text within the platform.
Remember, justified text can greatly enhance the professional appearance of your document, but like any design element, it should be used appropriately and in moderation. Happy designing!
Note: Figma is constantly updating and enhancing their features. We could likely see a more straightforward option for text justification in future updates.
