If you’re part of a Slack workspace that you no longer need to be involved with, it may be time to consider leaving it. Whether it’s a project that has come to an end, or your role has changed and the workspace is no longer relevant, leaving a Slack workspace is a simple process that can help declutter your Slack sidebar. In this blog post, we will walk you through step-by-step on how to do it.
Step One: Open Your Slack Workspace
The first thing you need to do is open Slack and navigate to the workspace you want to leave. This could be on your desktop application, mobile app or web browser. Look for the workspace’s name on your Slack sidebar, and click on it.
Step Two: Open Workspace Menu
Once you’re in the workspace, find the workspace name again at the top of your sidebar. Click on it to open the workspace menu. This will open a drop-down list of options related to the workspace.
Step Three: Select ‘Leave This Workspace’
In the drop-down list, find and click on ‘Leave This Workspace’. A confirmation window will pop up asking if you’re sure you want to leave. Remember, this action cannot be undone. If you’re sure you want to leave, click ‘Yes, leave this workspace’.
Step Four: Confirm Your Decision
After you click ‘Yes, leave this workspace’, a final confirmation window will pop up. This window will tell you that you’re about to leave the workspace, and remind you that you’ll lose access to all files, messages, and history. If you’re sure, click ‘Leave’.
And that’s it! You’ve now successfully left a Slack workspace. If you ever need to rejoin, you’ll need to get an invitation from a workspace admin or owner.
Note
If you’re the primary owner of a workspace, you cannot leave the workspace until you transfer ownership to another member. In case you want to delete the workspace entirely, please follow Slack’s instructions for deleting a workspace.
Always remember to consider carefully before leaving a workspace as this action cannot be undone!
