Occasionally, you might want or need to remove a Gmail account from your device. Perhaps you’re no longer using a particular account or you’re sharing a device with someone else. Whatever your reason might be, we’re here to help you with a step-by-step guide on how to successfully remove a Gmail account from Gmail.
Removing a Gmail Account from a Desktop
If you’re on a desktop computer, follow these simple steps:
- Open a web browser and go to the Google Account page which can be found here.
Note: Make sure you’re signed in to the right account first. If you’re signed into multiple Google accounts, you’ll need to sign out of the account you don’t want to use before you can remove it.
- Click on your profile picture located at the top right-hand side of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.
- Select the account you wish to remove.
- Click on ‘Sign out’, located at the bottom of the list.
- You’ve now successfully removed that Gmail account from your Gmail!
Removing a Gmail Account from a Mobile Device
If you are trying to remove a Gmail account from your mobile device, the process is slightly different but still easy to follow:
- Open the Gmail app on your phone.
- Tap the menu button (three horizontal bars) located on the top left-hand side.
- Tap on your account which is located at the top, right under the ‘Search mail’ bar.
- A drop-down menu will appear. Click on ‘Manage accounts on this device’.
- Find the account you wish to remove and tap ‘Remove from this device’.
And there you have it, you’ve successfully removed a Gmail account from your Gmail app on your mobile device!
Please note that removing an account will not delete it permanently. It will only remove it from your device. If you wish to delete your account permanently, you will need to follow a different set of instructions.
